Maria José Moutinho Ferreira

Maria José Moutinho Ferreira is an associate professor at the Universidade Lusófona do Porto, Faculty of Communication, Art, Architecture and Information Technologies, in Communication Science and Applied Communications.

Her reserach interests include the areas of communication technologies and education, specifically higher education and how academic culture may impact on the adoption of new technologies in teaching and learning; and more recently communication technolohies and environmental education; specifically focusing on a research line that aims to identify, whethere there is a role of social media in (the promotion of) environmental literacy, and how studies in environmental literacy can perhaps benefit from media and transmedia literacy research.

Ferreira completed her doctoral degree in Communication Studies at McGill
University, Canada (2005) with a Research Fellowship from the
Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, McGill University
(2003-2004) and a Royal Bank Fellowship, from the Centre for University
Teaching and Learning, McGill University. (2002)

Amongst her main publications are the book Rethinking Academic Culure in the Information Age (2014), and the articles Mitigating User Resistance to New Information Systems: Exploring the Role of Social Media (2013), Intelligent Classrooms and Smart Software: Teaching and Learning in Today s University (2012), and The University of the 21st Century: the Will to Technology or the Will to Knowledge? (2010).

She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the 10th edition of CENTERIS – International Conference on ENTERprise Information Systems, taking place November 2018.
