Exhibition by Orlando Franco @ Banco das Artes Galeria

“Aware” is the theme of an exhibition by PhD student Orlando Franco that will open, in the #projectroom of the Banco das Artes Galeria (BAG), on Friday, April 30, at 5pm, and will be open to the public until July 4.

This exhibition comes as an extension of the exhibition “The eyes are not here”, which ran in 2019 at the Trem gallery in Faro.

Orlando Franco has built this body of work from the poetic influence of T.S. Eliot, in particular the poem “The Hollow Men”. The theme of this project is based on a paradoxical confrontation in the relationship between image and consciousness, as a state of relation with reality.

“Aware” works as a total installation, in an articulation between the images and the gallery space, under a low light environment. The installation creates an experience of immersion through works that accentuate presence while completely emptying its function (gaze into the void; gaze absent).

In the video work, “Aware”, a girl confronts us with the uninterrupted gaze (the video shows a woman who watches us without ever blinking, as if this involuntary function of the body were forbidden), in a humanly impossible act.

The exhibition can be visited daily, from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 17:30, and on Saturday and Sunday, from 9:00 to 18:00, in compliance with the safety standards recommended by the DGS.
