Title: The young citizens’ perspective of the communication for development and social change: premises towards practice in developing contexts

Abstract: This talk subject focuses on a study which aims at analysing the participation dynamics of young Brazilians, who use the U-Report platform, as an exploratory case study. This analysis shed light to re-think Communication for Development and Social Change (CfDSC) in Brazil, and in similar contexts where marginalized youth are experiencing constrains in their voices and feeling disempowered as a result of structural social inequalities and governmental policies disconnected with their needs. In this talk, the study pathway will be revisited, its key findings will be outlined, and the discussion behind the six premises of the CfDSC, from the perspective of young citizens will be unfolded.

Biography: Cássia Ayres has been working with communication and sustainable development for more than 18 years. She is currently the Communication for Development (C4D) Manager at UNICEF in Afghanistan. She is PhD Candidate, having submitted her thesis in January 2021.
