Webinars MeLCi Lab – YouTube literacy for children and youth: from research to action – 26th March – 16h30

The next Webinars MeLCi Lab`s event is inviting Ana Jorge (Lusófona University, CICANT), that will talk about YouTube literacy for children and youth: from research to action. This session will be on 26th March, at 4:30pm, in this zoom link.

Abstract: This presentation proposes an agenda for YouTube literacy especially with regards to children and youth. A literature review identified salient problems of the use of the platform: data exploitation; ultracommodification of digital culture; pseudo-intimacy between influencers and audiences; harmful, extremist and disinformative content. Based on this, we propose a critical education agenda with priority aims and objectives to ensure the wider goal of digital wellbeing by young users.

CV: Ana Jorge is Research Coordinator at the Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies (CICANT), and Associate Professor at Lusófona University. She holds a Communication Sciences PhD from University NOVA of Lisbon, where she also conducted postdoctoral research on Media Education, both with individual grants from the national science agency, FCT. Ana researches on children, youth and media, audiences, celebrity culture, digital culture, and she has taken part of international projects and networks as EU Kids Online, RadioActive101, COST Actions Transforming Audiences and DigiLitEY.
