Luís Miguel Loureiro

Luís M. Loureiro holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from the University of Minho in 2012 where he conducted a pioneering research on the communicational configuration and public emergence of the Desperate Generation (Geração à Rasca) simultaneous protests of March 2011, the first portuguese in-depth study on the current digital networked activism phenomena. In his thesis he proposed a multiple identification based theoretical model as a way to understand these new types of political mobilizations. He holds a postgraduate degree in Journalism and Information from the University of Minho, 2007. He also holds a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Coimbra, 1992. He is a journalist at the portuguese public broadcast TV RTP currently performing as an investigative reporter at the awarded team of “Sexta às 9”. Since 2012 he is a lecturer at ULP – Lusófona University of Oporto where he coordinates the degree in Communication Sciences and the master’s degree in Communication Networks and Technologies. He is also a member of the scientific board of Communication for Development PhD and Media Arts PhD at the ULP – Lusófona University of Porto. He is currently an integrated researcher at CICANT – Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies, and between 2008 and 2013 he was a researcher at CECS – Centre for Communication and Society Studies at the University of Minho. He co-authored two scientific books, published 14 articles in specialized journals, produced 8 chapters for scientific books and has 7 papers in international congress proceedings. He also took part in 13 academic PhD and Master degree boards. He’s been awarded two individual national journalism prizes and one colective national journalism award (as a member of the “Sexta às 9” team).
His main areas of interest are Communication Sciences, Media Sociology and Visual Culture.
