FEMglocal’s Team at the IX International Congress of Young Researchers with a Gender Perspective

On June 18 and 19, the FEMglocal team participated in the IX International Congress of Young Researchers with a Gender Perspective, a hybrid conference held at Rey Juan Carlos University and online.

On the afternoon of June 18, Camila Lamartine presented her paper, “Communicating through Cyberfeminism: Communication Strategies for the Construction of the International Feminist Strike in Portugal”, in a panel on “Stereotypes and Media” moderated by Carla Cerqueira (FEMglocal’s PI). This was a unique opportunity to delve into some of Camila Lamartine’s research findings on the 8M movement in Portugal, to explore the role of cyberfeminism in the country, namely through the organisation and local manifestations of the International Feminist Strike.

On the afternoon of June 19, Daniel Cardoso closed the conference as a keynote speaker with the presentation “The gendered politics of naming - Reflecting on queering academic praxis”. They open a space for discussion on academic practice and ethics, examining how the terminologies and names we use and create exert power and can, therefore, also lead to violence or exclusion through non-naming. Daniel Cardoso also reflected on the responsibility of queer feminist science in what it names, includes and excludes from its praxis.

FEMglocal - Glocal feminist movements: interactions and contradictions is a research project funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through national funds (PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021 / DOI 10.54499/PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021).
