CICANT has participated in the kick-off of Summer with Science, an initiative of the Foundation for Science and Technology. In this year's edition at Universidade Lusófona, about 20 students will be involved in training and Research and Development (R&D) projects in the different research units over the next few weeks. Among the students participating in the program are the four CICANT grantees Ana Rita Santos, Maria Peres, Pedro Juan Torres and Rafael Pinheiro Lopes, who revealed that the chance to participate in this initiative will allow them to get in touch with some of the stages of the process of conducting a research project and will help them improve their methodological skills.
The morning session was focused on introducing the participants involved in this initiative and the research units of Lusófona University, highlighting the cross-disciplinary nature of the university's research. During the afternoon, students were introduced and invited to reflect, among other issues, on the current state of research in Social Sciences in Portugal and some of the paradigms of the Portuguese university establishment.
The Summer with Science is a special support program granted by FCT for scientific and technological research activities in R&D units, with the aim of reinforcing scientific and technological capacity and its relationship with higher education and society. The objective of this funding is to stimulate the beginning of scientific activity, thus contributing to the promotion of scientific and technological literacy and to the dissemination and promotion of scientific and technical knowledge among students in higher education.
