YouNDigital results presented in Groningen

The conference "Practices of digital in- and exclusion in everyday life" took place on April 3 and 4 in Groningen (Netherlands). The event was organized by the Groningen University and aimed to bring together researchers working in various fields to discuss and share good practices related to the promotion of digital literacy, especially among excluded groups or those at risk of exclusion.

Ana F. Oliveira and Margarida Maneta, researchers of the project YouNDigital - Youth, News and Digital Citizenship (PTDC/COM-OUT/0243/2021) attended the event, and presented two papers about the first results of the project.

In the paper entitled "YouNDigital: digital tools for reaching young people's diversity" Ana F. Oliveira (co-authored with Carla Sousa and Maria João Leote de Carvalho) presented a reflection on the potential and challenges of using digital tools in research, taking as a starting point the design-thinking process that is underpinning the development of a web app that will host a digital newsroom for young people from diverse backgrounds.

The second communication, presented by Margarida Maneta (co-authored with Maria José Brites and Teresa Sofia Castro), was entitled "Youth's perspectives on news and digital citizenship: contributions from YouNDigital" and focused on the relationship of young people with news and digital citizenship, from the project that intends to study all contexts - from the most common in the literature to the most particular ones. Some preliminary results of the survey were presented, allowing us to take a detailed look at the Portuguese reality, in particular how the young respondents (15-24 years old) see information and imagine its production and distribution in the future.

The event counted with a variety of parallel sessions, a roundtable on digital inequalities, digital in- and exclusion, research and social impact, and two keynotes by Prof. Massimo Ragnedda and Prof. Renée Hobbs
