“OF THE STRANGE”

In life the strange always breaks in. In fact, within the meshes that make up the law of things, there is a series of phenomena and people who do not fit or fit badly or who are pushed aside, repelled, silenced. In life the strange always breaks in. In the planetary era we have entered, our relationship with nature and history is obscure, a source of general unease. But without the strangeness nothing new or different would be possible, because the Stranger, in what is disturbing, disturbs life and its safe associations, giving an account of something incalculable within calculations and measures. There is, therefore, a certain responsibility of thinking that goes through hospitality as the only law of the Stranger; through the questioning of Unheimlichkeit in theatre and in the arts, capable of welcoming it in its most extreme forms; through strategies of recognition of the excluded and marginalised; through the questioning of a cosmopolitics that respects the community of those who inhabit the earth. Basically, the whole challenge is to question the passages of the Stranger in contemporaneity.
