The second session of the cycle "Between Cultures: Arts, artists and intellectuals between Portugal and Mozambique", coordinated by Lurdes Macedo and Vanessa Ribeiro-Rodrigues, researchers at CICANT, and Nuno Bessa Moreira, professor at Universidade Lusófona - CUP, took place on 25 November at Livraria do Gato Vadio (Porto). The artist Manuel Santos Maia presented the "Alheava" project, which began in 1999 and comprises two periods.
The first, between 1999 and 2014, was presented in different national and international venues, including various artistic practices. It was during this phase of the project, in 2007, that the artist made the film presented during the session, which proposes an open discussion about the Portuguese colonial past in Mozambique. The second period of the "Alheava" project began in 2014, when Maia returned to Mozambique, the country of his birth, after an absence of almost 40 years. In this second period, the artist has held several exhibitions in which he returns to his/our places of memory to rethink the connection between Portugal and Mozambique.
The third session of the cycle is scheduled for 16 December and promises to surprise with poetry between Portugal and Mozambique.
