About the project
The Curiositas project, jointly organized by Universidade Lusófona and Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, brings together experts from various fields. It is led by a team of national and international researchers with expertise in communication sciences, early media history, art history, virtual reality, and museology.
Curiositas delves into the concept of 'virtual heritage', exploring the often-overlooked history of early immersive media. It examines how these technologies, such as stereoscopic photography and virtual reality, have influenced cultural perspectives. Additionally, the project introduces a novel digital humanities approach to media studies, focusing on the potential of virtual reality as a research tool.
The primary aim of Curiositas is to produce a comprehensive media archaeology of 'immersion' using virtual reality, with a specific focus on the Iberian Cosmoramas.
