FEMglocal’s Hybrid Conference at Lusófona University – Porto

FEMglocal - Glocal feminist movements: interactions and contradictions research project, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through national funds (PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021 / DOI 10.54499/PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021), partnered with Lusófona University – Porto to host a hybrid event on April 10th titled “Mulheres E(m) Revolução” (Women and(in) Revolution) in commemoration of April 25th, the Carnation Revolution.

This event delved into the historical and ongoing struggles of women for equality, acknowledging their pivotal role during the Estado Novo regime and reflecting on their continued fight for rights and recognition. Irene Vaquinhas, a PhD in History and a full professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra since 2009, one of the most prominent researchers in women’s History and gender studies in Portugal, graced the occasion as a special guest.

At a time of political and social instability, when acquired freedoms and rights are being questioned, Irene Vaquinhas offered valuable insights into the significance and legacy of April 25th, from the perspective of women.
