On Sunday, April 14th, at 10:30 AM, the Women’s Section of the Portuguese Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health hosted a panel discussion titled “Mulheres, Liberdade e Transgressões” (“Women, Freedom, and Transgressions”) at the National Soares dos Reis Museum. The event welcomed Carla Cerqueira, FEMglocal’s PI, as one of the esteemed guests for this engaging conversation.
Commemorating International Women’s Day (celebrated on March 8th) and marking the 50th anniversary of the April 25th Revolution, the panel delved into the challenges and triumphs of women in Portugal and globally. The distinguished guests included Joana Ramos, Psychiatrist; Vera Silva, Anthropologist from the University of Coimbra; and Irina Gorgal Carvalho, sexologist from ULS Santo António, alongside Carla Cerqueira, Ph.D. in Communication Sciences with a specialization in Communication Psychology from the University of Minho.
Moderated by Ana Silva Pinto and Ana Matos Pires from the Portuguese Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health, the event underscored the importance of bringing together women from diverse backgrounds, professional experiences, and areas of expertise. By drawing from historical memory, the panel aimed to analyse the current situation and outline strategies in the realm of gender equality and feminism. Such discussions serve as crucial platforms for fostering dialogue, understanding, and collaboration towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
