The FEMglocal - Glocal feminist movements: interactions and contradictions research project, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through national funds (PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021 / DOI 10.54499/PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021), organized the webinar “Ativismos no Feminino” (“Activisms in the Feminine”) on May 31, 2024.
Drawing on the experiences and stories of the distinguished guests, Zenaida Machado, a Senior Researcher in the Africa Division at Human Rights Watch with over 15 years of experience as a multimedia journalist, analyst, and researcher covering human rights in Africa, and Sizaltina Cutaia, a feminist activist, human and civic rights advocate, and the director and representative of the Open Society Angola Foundation (OSISA), and moderated by Jéssica Ferreira, this event explored the nuances of feminist activisms.
The webinar took participants on a journey through individual and collective actions organized in defense of women’s rights and gender equality, highlighting how these actions have manifested across various aspects of human life and in different contexts. Recognizing the diversity of feminisms, the discussion focused on how women have confronted and acted upon social inequalities, proposing measures to promote female empowerment and equal opportunities.
