On May 16 and 17, the team from the FEMglocal - Glocal Feminist Movements: Interactions and Contradictions research project, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through national funds (PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021 / DOI 10.54499/PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021), attended the 1st Feminist and Education Congress, One Hundred Years Later: Women, Rights, and Citizenship in the Construction of Democratic Societies, held at NOVA FCSH in Lisbon.
On May 16, during the parallel session “Feminisms of the 21st Century: Achievements and Challenges," Camila Lamartine presented "Communicating through Cyberfeminism: Communication Strategies for the Construction of 8M in Portugal”, co-authored with Carla Cerqueira (FEMglocal’s PI). This presentation aimed to promote reflection on how cyberfeminism has supported the development and dissemination of feminism and feminist movements in Portugal, particularly the 8M initiative.
On May 17, in the parallel session “History(ies) of #MeToo: Gender, Violence, and Discrimination in Portugal”, Carla Cerqueira presented “Diversity and Marginalization: #MeToo and Intersectionality in the Portuguese Context”. Developed in collaboration with Célia Taborda (FEMglocal’s Co-PI) and Ana Sofia Pereira (FEMglocal’s post-doctoral fellow), this presentation addressed the topic of intersectionality by examining the degree of intersectional awareness in the #MeToo movement in Portugal, based on an analysis of the eight national newspapers and magazines with the highest digital paid circulation.
