FEMglocal’s Co-PI at XVIII International Seminar of the Overarching Issues of the European Area
On May 25, 2024, Célia Taborda, Co-Principal Investigator of the research project FEMglocal - Glocal feminist movements: Interactions and contradictions (funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through national funds, PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021 / DOI 10.54499/PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021), was invited to deliver a presentation at the XVIII International Seminar of the Overarching Issues of the European Area, held at Faculdade de Letras do Porto (the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto).
The presentation, titled “Entre o Global e o Local: a Greve Feminista Internacional” (“Between the Global and the Local: The Feminist International Strike”), explored the global scope and local expressions of this feminist strike, with a particular focus on Portugal, a country where feminism nearly dissipated under dictatorship. Taborda discussed the transnational nature of the feminist movement, highlighting the International Feminist Strike as a powerful advocate for gender equality and a staunch opponent of various forms of oppression, including economic injustice. She also emphasized the crucial impact of digital activism in fostering new activist dynamics and interactions, creating a symbiosis between online and street activism in a relational continuum.
