The FEM-ABLE project - promoting women’s participation in the political domain - organized a debate on July 23rd with the objective of discussing women's participation at different stages of political party life, considering various perspectives, positions, and ages within the political spectrum. The event, held at Casa das Associações in Porto, was attended by Andreia Peniche (BE), Clara de Sousa Alves (PSD), Mafalda Folhadela (CDS-PP), and Susana Constante Pereira (BE).
For approximately two hours, topics such as gender stereotypes, cultural norms, and the balance between personal/family life and professional life were discussed as the main barriers to women's participation in the political arena, according to the perspectives of various political orientations.
About the project
FEM-ABLE aims to uncover and address the root causes behind the persistently low political power scores of women. By conducting in-depth research and measurement across partner countries, the project seeks to develop innovative solutions to promote women's participation and influence in politics at both national and European levels. FEM-able specifically targets women who hold key positions of political power, with the primary objective of creating effective processes and tools derived from comprehensive research.
FEM-ABLE aims to promote gender equality in political decision-making by developing evidence-based national strategies and cooperating with stakeholders to integrate research findings into national policy. The project contributes to a more equal representation of women and men in political decision-making, leading to more inclusive and equitable societies.
