With the support of the YouNDigital project team, Lusófona University (Centro Universitário do Porto) and CICANT hosted another edition of the Media Literacy and Journalism Training on 8 and 9 November. Organised by the Associação Literacia para os Media e Jornalismo (ALPMJ) and CENJOR (Centro Protocolar de Formação Profissional para Jornalistas), the event aims to train journalists, communication teachers and communicators to give training in the area of media literacy.
Among the scheduled activities was a training session with the PI of the YouNDigital project, Maria José Brites, entitled ‘Digital citizenship, the formation of active and critical audiences, the relationship between journalists and citizens’. Vitor Tomé, the project's consultant, also spoke at the session entitled ‘Historical-conceptual framework of Media Literacy’. The project's post-doctoral fellow, Mariana Scalabrin Müller, took part in the event as a trainee.
YouNDigital researchers Margarida Maneta, Maria José Brites, Lúcia Mesquita and Vanessa Ribeiro-Rodrigues, as well as consultant Vitor Tomé, are also part of ALPMJ's pool of trainers.
The training was attended by a series of guests who led training sessions, workshops and group dynamics. Among the guest speakers was British researcher David Buckingham, emeritus professor at Loughborough University and visiting professor at Kingʼs College London.
