What will news look like in the future? This is the central question of the roundtable hosted by the YouNDigital – Youth, News, and Digital Citizenship project. The event will take place on December 10th, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, in the Salão Nobre at Lusófona University – Porto Universitary Centre.
Bringing together young people and journalists, the discussion will delve into the evolution of news in the coming years. Insights will be guided by data from a representative survey conducted online with 1,362 young people in Portugal, as part of the YouNDigital project.
Guest Speakers
The roundtable will feature contributions from experts and young voices in the fields of journalism and communication:
- Francisco Porto Fernandes – President of the Porto Academic Federation, Economics graduate, and current Master's student at the Porto University;
- Carolina Franco – Journalist for Público and co-editor at Shifter, with expertise in trans* representation in audiovisual media.
- Adriano Cerqueira – Science journalist, producer of the 90 Seconds of Science podcast, and author of popular science books, including Eureka! Discoveries That Changed Science.
- Mariana Vieira – Final-year Communication Sciences student at Lusófona University – Porto Universitary Centre, with training in theater and informational disorders.
- Daniel Catalão – PhD in Digital Media, journalist and presenter at RTP, expert in new technologies and the internet, and author of the TecNet program.
- Camila Luís – Final-year Journalism and Communication student at the University of Coimbra, editor and writer for A Cabra, Coimbra’s University Journal.
The roundtable aims to spark discussions on the challenges and possibilities for the future of journalism, highlighting the intersection of youth, digital citizenship, and evolving communication practices.
