As part of the “Empowering Europeans Against Disinformation” project, CICANT launched the “Playing Against Disinformation” initiative in collaboration with 12 senior participants from the digital literacy course at the Senior University of the Social Parish Center of Campo Grande.
This activity, part of WP7 (Local Action Plans), used a participatory approach to develop a game that combats fake news, promoting critical thinking and awareness. Participants were involved in every step, from brainstorming ideas to testing the game.
Through a partnership with Lusófona University (led by Lusófona researcher and PhD candidate), the initiative benefited from a fully equipped learning environment, demonstrating how local actions can empower communities to tackle disinformation while strengthening digital literacy.
The game was developed in six interactive sessions:
- Brainstorming – Generating ideas for the game.
- Defining Rules – Outlining the gameplay structure.
- Creating Scenarios – Using real fake news examples.
- Game Testing – Refining the mechanics.
- Gameplay – Running sessions with participants.
- Reflection – Gathering feedback for improvement.
This initiative empowered participants to think critically and share the importance of fighting disinformation within their communities.
