STORYline project hosts roundtable on Intergenerational Citizenship

The STORYline project – Exploring Youth Citizenship through Intergenerational Approaches and Digital Storytelling (2023.11571.PEX) is organizing a round table on February 28 to discuss intergenerational citizenship. As part of the project's launch activities, the event "Intergenerational Citizenship: Views on the Collective Construction of Citizenship" will bring together two leading experts in Communication Sciences to explore the collective construction of citizenship.

The invited speakers, Julian McDougall (Bournemouth University) and Mireia Fernández-Ardèvol (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya), serve as consultants for the project and will share insights from their extensive research.

Julian McDougall is a Professor of Media and Education at Bournemouth University, Principal Fellow of Advance HE, and Programme Leader for the Professional Doctorate (EdD) in Creative and Media Education. He leads the Media and Information Literacy for Healthy Eco-Systems research cluster at the Centre for Science, Health, and Data Communication Research, specializing in media education and digital literacy.

Mireia Fernández-Ardèvol is an Associate Professor at the Open University of Catalonia’s Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences and a Senior Researcher at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3-UOC). Her work examines the impact of mobile digital communication on society.

The round table will be held online via Zoom, and registration is required. Register here to attend the event.

This event is supported by ECREA through the Children, Youth & Media section and the Temporary Working Groups on Ageing & Communication and Media Literacies & Communication Competencies. Additional support comes from SOPCOM’s Communication and Education Working Group and the Media and Information Literacy Alliance.

About the project

STORYline is an exploratory research project focused on understanding the role of intergenerational relationships and digital media in shaping youth citizenship narratives. It examines how adults influence youth perspectives, the impact of digital media on citizenship narratives, and how these dynamics play out in Portugal—a country marked by migration, an ageing population, and digital divides.
