Alexander Gerner Publishes Two New Chapters on Urban Ethics and Human Rights

CICANT announces that Alexander Matthias Gerner has contributed two insightful chapters to the recently published book Designing in Times of Crisis: Envisioning and Applying, edited by Jorge Cruz Pinto and Ljiljana Cavic, and published by Routledge.

In the chapter titled "Hacking into Green Deal Neighbourhoods with City Ethics and Fundamental Human Rights", Gerner critically examines the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus initiatives. He explores how these programs can be integrated with urban ethics to create inclusive, democratic, and culturally intelligent neighborhoods. Gerner emphasizes the importance of avoiding "greenwashed gentrification" and advocates for the protection of fundamental human rights in urban development.

The second chapter, "Rehearsals of Shared Encounters for Improvising a Public Square", co-authored with Ljiljana Cavic, investigates the role of public spaces in fostering community engagement and social interaction. The authors propose innovative design approaches that encourage spontaneous encounters and collective experiences, contributing to the resilience and vibrancy of urban environments.

These contributions reflect Gerner's commitment to addressing contemporary challenges in urban planning and design, particularly in the context of environmental sustainability and social equity. His work aligns with CICANT's mission to promote interdisciplinary research that informs policy and practice in the creative and cultural industries.
