CICANT takes part in UNESCO International Media and Information Literacy Course for Ibero-American Regulators

UNESCO has launched an eight-week Media and Information Literacy training program for regulatory experts from across Ibero-America. The course, running until November 18, brings together 40 participants from 10 regulatory organizations across seven countries in collaboration with Lusófona University, the Consell de l'Audiovisual de Catalunya, and the AMI-PRAI Working Group. Maria José Brites, Lúcia Mesquita, Margarida Maneta and Vitor Tomé - professors at the Master's in Media and Information Literacy and Digital Citizenship - are promoting a range of activities and learning units within the training course.

The intensive program focuses on key contemporary challenges, including regulatory frameworks for media literacy, prevention of disinformation and hate speech, the impact of artificial intelligence on digital citizenship, and measuring media literacy's effect on democratic processes. During the sessions, participants will also identify international best practices that can be adapted to Ibero-American contexts.

The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of regulatory bodies to enhance citizen resilience against digital challenges, supporting the construction of more informed, critical, and democratic societies across the region. The program demonstrates strong gender representation with 30 women and 10 men participating from the regulatory community.
