Conceição Costa (CICANT), Kim Hoflod (Aarhus University), Rikke Toft Nørgård (Aarhus University), Maria Gonçalves (CICANT), Inês Nunes and Pedro Fernandes (HEI-Lab) published the article titled “Exploring Cultural Game-Making With Youth: A 20-Year Systematic Review” on Games and Culture. In this article, the researchers conduct a systematic literature review to answer the following research questions: Does there exist, in sources, a conceptualisation of cultural game jams? Who are the main stakeholders and participants? What are the outcomes of cultural game jams? This research was developed within the context of the EPIC-WE project, supported by the European Union′s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement number 101095058. The researchers found that there was no conceptualization of “cultural game-making”, which presents an opportunity for EPIC-WE. Youth, as game-makers, are referred mainly as “students,” co-creators with Education institutions, developers, and creative industries, motivated to participate in jams by their desire to have a future career in game development. This review also found that the most referred outcomes of game jams are models for the design and assessment of the game jams’ achievement, tools to facilitate ideation, and, to a lesser extent, games.
