NewsArcade@Classroom project releases State of the Art Report

The NewsArcade@Classroom project has published its State of the Art Report, marking a significant milestone in advancing media literacy education through gamification. The report was coordinated by researchers Ana Filipa Oliveira and Carla Sousa, together with research scholar Ana Lamy Silva.

The comprehensive report examines current practices, trends, and evidence in media literacy education enhanced by gamification, combining findings from desk research and systematic literature review with field-based data collected from educators, students, and media literacy experts across Cyprus, Denmark, Portugal, and France.

Using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, the report establishes an evidence base to guide the project's development and ensure the NewsArcade tool addresses the real needs of its target audiences.

The document also outlines detailed research protocols for desk research, systematic literature review, and field-based activities - including surveys, interviews, and focus groups—ensuring transparency and rigour in data collection and analysis. newsarcade

Findings from this research phase will inform the ongoing development of the NewsArcade gamified learning platform, which aims to foster critical thinking, media awareness, and classroom engagement across Europe. By aligning theoretical frameworks with practical insights, the report establishes a foundation for an evidence-based, user-centred design process that will benefit both educators and learners.
