CICANT researcher delivers Research Methodologies talk at the University of Salamanca
Ana Filipa Oliveira, researcher at CICANT, delivered a talk on research methodologies for studying young and older audiences to master's students at the Universidad de Salamanca's Audiovisual Communication: Research and Innovation programme. The presentation, titled "Researching Young and Older Audiences: Reflections on Methodological Approaches from European and Portuguese Projects," offered insights into studying diverse age groups in the digital media landscape.
Ana F. Oliveira drew on her experience from multiple European and national research projects to illustrate practical methodological approaches. These included SMaRT-EU - Social Media Resilience Toolkit (LC-01563446), which focused on building resilience against online risks with intergenerational groups, ASAP - A Systemic APproach to social media and pre-adolescents through thinking skills education (2022-1-IT02-KA220-SCH-000090043) that aimed to develop educational materials and approaches to support school communities in addressing online risks, and YouNDigital - Youth, News and Digital Cicitzenship (PTDC/COM-OUT/0243/2021), that delved into youth engagement with news and digital citizenship. The presentation also referenced methodologies from the NewsArcade@Classroom - Seriously Play the News in the Classroom! (101186092),NewsArcade@Classroom - Seriously Play the News in the Classroom! (101186092), a project that uses gamification to enhance media literacy in educational settings, and STORYline - Shaping Youth Citizenship Through Intergenerational Approaches and Digital Narratives (2023.11571.PEX), which is exploring how intergenerational approaches and digital narratives can shape youth citizenship.
The session also counted with the participation of CECS-UM researcher/ UTAD invited professor Marisa Mourão, who presented a talk titled "The talk was part of the MUCAII Seminar".
By sharing reflections from these European and Portuguese research initiatives, Ana F. Oliveira provided students with concrete examples of how to design and implement research across different age groups and (digital) contexts. The seminar represents the ongoing international collaboration between CICANT and academic institutions across Europe in advancing communication and media research.
