COFAC, Cooperativa de Animação e Formação Cultural crl, hereby opens a competition to recruit a PhD researcher, corresponding to position 54 of the Single Remuneration Table, under the terms of the applicable legislation, with an Term Employment Contract, within the scope of programme contract between Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P., and the above mentioned Cooperative, supported by national funds inscribed in the budget of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) – and carried out in the Research Unit CICANT – Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies.
Admission Requirements: Candidates must have the following mandatory requirements: Academic qualification required: PhD in Communication Sciences, with specific research curriculum in Media Society and Literacy.

CICANT – The Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies is inviting applications for a full researcher position in digital communication within the subject area of communication studies. For the successful applicant this position offers an excellent opportunity to build a multifaceted academic career in a dynamic and international environment. Work plan to be developed includes, in particular, the following guidelines: social media and platform economy; data visualization and datification; digitalization from the perspectives of audiences, society, community, culture and/or economy; data literacies. In addition, publications in the fields of media theory are considered as merits. The position is research-orientated, but the appointed person will also acquire external funding, deliver high-quality teaching and theses supervision, actively participate in activities within the research unit, as well as create societal impact through its work. The duties in teaching and supervision are related to the study programmes in communication studies. The scope of responsibilities is determined according to the career stage of the successful candidate. We are looking for candidates with a suitable doctoral degree (PhD) together with excellent academic merit as well as evidence of the ability to produce high quality research. The ideal candidate will have a strong potential for excellence in research. In the event that the candidate holds a doctoral degree from a foreign higher education institution, the formalities required by Decree-Law No. 341/2007, of 12 October, must be observed until the deadline for submitting applications. The activities foreseen in the exercise of that place are those foreseen in the scope of the research project mentioned above. The contract to be carried out is scheduled to start on January, 1 2021, ending on December 31, 2024 or with the conclusion of the research project, under the terms of Decree-Law nº 57/2016, of 29 August, amended by Law nº 57/2017, of 19 July, and the Portuguese Labour Code. The activities contained in the object of the employment contract take place at the facilities of Campo Grande, 376, in Lisbon, or in places that appear necessary for the execution of the investigation plan.
The gross monthly base remuneration corresponds to position 54 of the Single Remuneration Table, approved by Decree No. 10-B/2020, March 23. The deadline for the submission of applications is 10 working days, starting on the date of publication of this notice, on November 23, and ending on 23h59 m of December 7, 2020. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., with the subject COFAC/CICANT/ULHT/UIDP/AUX-1/2020, the following documents: a) Presentation letter referring to the reasons that justified the application; b) Curriculum "vitae" mentioning professional experience, accompanied by a list of scientific publications produced and participation in funded projects; c) Doctoral certificate; d) Identification and contacts with the respective “email” addresses - of at least two academic personalities who attest to the displayed curriculum; e) work plan for the 3-year period to be developed in the ´Digital Communication` area, compiled by the CICANT I&D lines (https://cicant.ulusofona.pt/); f) Other documents considered relevant by the candidate and which, in his perspective, seem relevant to prove and evaluate the respective scientific and professional path. Excluding the elements mentioned in al. e), the non-compliance, by the interested party, of any of the requirements stated in the previous number determines the preliminary rejection of the application. False statements made by candidates will be punished under the law. The competition jury, composed of three members, is appointed by the Board of COFAC, crl. Under the terms of the preceding article, as well as that established by Article 13 of Decree-Law No. 57/2016, of 29 August, members of the jury are designated: (i) President - Manuel José Damásio (Executive Director of ILIND); (ii) Member - José Manuel de Figueiredo Gomes Pinto – (Coordinator of CICANT); (iii) Member - Maria José Brites (Member of the board of CICANT). The nominated jury is responsible for examining the applications. Minutes of all the jury meetings will be drawn up containing the description of the subjects discussed, as well as the votes cast by each of the members and the grounds for the decisions taken. Applications admitted to the competition are evaluated taking into account the quality, timeliness and relevance of the scientific (scientific production and research experience) and professional curricula of the interested parties, as well as the respective adequacy to the proposed work plan. In the first selection phase, the jury will evaluate, qualitatively, the curricular elements that are discriminated against: a. The candidate's scientific path, with particular relevance to scientific works performed or published in areas related to the proposed work plan (corresponding to 35% of the evaluation); B. The candidate's professional career, with special emphasis on activities developed in areas related to the work plan and the context of CICANT's performance (corresponding to 50% of the evaluation); ç. Presentation letter in Portuguese and English (15% of the assessment), in order to assess the candidate's motivation and interest in the activities to be carried out (10% of the assessment), as well as the command of English (5% of the assessment). If deemed necessary, and with a view to evaluation at this stage of the competition, the jury may request references from the candidate to the academic individuals mentioned in article 4, paragraph 1, al. d). In the second phase of the competition, the jury will select for an interview (corresponding to 10% of the total evaluation) up to 5 candidates from those who, in the first phase, obtained the highest classification - in any event, only evaluations higher than 60%. In the event of a tie, the final decision will be the responsibility of the president of the jury. Once the selection phases have been completed, the jury will draw up, within a maximum period of 5 working days, a minute showing the final decision, the ordered list of approved candidates, with the respective final classification, as well as a summary description of the recruitment process, evaluation and selection undertaken. The jury's final decision, as referred to in paragraph 5 of the previous article, expresses the interested parties are notified so that, in the exercise of the right of prior hearing provided for by the Administrative Procedure Code, they can, within 10 working days, pronounce themselves about yourself. After the deadline for exercising the right of prior hearing has elapsed, it is the final decision of the jury approved by the President of COFAC, crl., Who is also responsible for deciding on the hiring of the selected candidate. The list of admitted and excluded candidates, as well as the respective final classifications, are posted on the premises of the Lusófona University of Humanities and Technologies, at Avenida do Campo Grande, nº 376, in Lisbon, as well as on the website www.cicant.pt , being candidates notified by “email”.
