COFAC, Cooperativa de Animação e Formação Cultural crl, opens a call for a Research Initiation Scholarship to be developed under the work of Media Literacy and Civic Cultures Lab – MeLci Lab and the Master program on Media and Information Literacy and Digital Citizenship, in the research unit CICANT - Research Center for Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies and Lusófona University (Porto).
Master program on Media and Information Literacy and Digital Citizenship (https://www.ulp.pt/en/mestrado/media-and-information-literacy-and-digital-citizenship ) and Media Literacy and Civic Cultures Lab – MeLci Lab (https://cicant.ulusofona.pt/research/labs/melci-lab ) teams evidence the dynamic and fruitful environment that Lusófona University and CICANT promote and develop in the context of media literacy, civic cultures and digital citizenship.
Applicable legislation: Legal Regime of the Research Grant Holder Statute (Law no. 40/2004, of August 18, republished in annex to Decree-Law no. 202/2012, of August 27, and amended by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28, which proceeds with the fourth amendment to the Research Grant Holder Statute); and Regulation no. 950/2019, of December 16, which approves the FCT Research Grant Regulations - 2019 (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2019.pdf).
The activities will develop under the supervision of the PhD Maria José Brites.
Required educational level:
Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences / other subareas of Communication Sciences (preferably applications from masters in areas such as Media, Information Literacy and Digital Citizenship, as well as from Lusofona Group High Education Institutions).
Required languages:
Portuguese: Excellent + English: Excellent
Experience and skills
The candidate CV must evidence previous work that demonstrates the candidate is qualified to carry out communication and dissemination activities to support the Master program and MeLCi Lab scientific activities, namely:
- To support internal communication;
- To support in internal communication between CICANT and master's and doctoral students at Lusophone University (Porto);
- To prepare and conduct dissemination tasks;
- To prepare videos and podcast;
- To prepare website updates;
- To prepare webinars and other events.
- Other tasks to support the Master program and the MeLCi Lab activities.
Preferential admission requirements.
Preference will be given to candidates that demonstrate:
a) experience and knowledge in the areas of Communication Sciences, with special focus on media literacy, civic cultures and digital citizenship;
b) capacity in network construction and training activities;
c) strong skills to operate with research video and audio editing;
d) strong skills to work and update websites;
e) Strong skills to organize dissemination activities, such as events, webinares, meetings and conferences;
f) to be proficient, both orally and in writing, in Portuguese and English.
g) That are conducting master’s degrees in the field of media literacy and digital citizenship or PhD studies in areas of civic cultures and activism.
Duration of the Fellowship: The fellowship will have a duration of 6 months, and can be renewed up to a maximum of 12 months.
Amount of the grant and method of payment: The monthly payment is €486,12 in accordance with the table of values for grants awarded by FCT, I.P. (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/Tabela_de_Valores_SMM_2022.pdf).

a) Detailed Curriculum Vitae clearly indicating how was acquired the knowledge and experience to meet the selection criteria by giving specific examples;
b) a motivational letter in Portuguese and in English;
c) documents proving that the candidate meets the required conditions for the type of scholarship to which he/she is applying for, namely qualification certificates with final average. In the case of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and in order to ensure the application of the principle of equal treatment to applicants holding foreign and national academic degrees, it is mandatory to recognize these degrees and convert the respective final classification to the Portuguese classification scale. The recognition of foreign degrees and diplomas and the conversion of the final classification into the Portuguese classification scale may be requested at any public higher education institution or at the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES, only in the case of automatic recognition). Regarding this matter, we suggest consulting the DGES portal at the following address: http://www.dges.gov.pt.; updated document proving the professional situation, indicating the nature of the contract and duties, which may be replaced by a sworn statement if there is no professional activity or provision of services;
d) other relevant documents for the candidate evaluation.
The candidates will be excluded in the following cases:
1) applications sent by other means or extemporaneously will not be accepted;
2) application not submitted properly or not presenting the requested documents to prove a), b) and c);
3) making false declarations;
4) application not in accordance with R1 profile as defined in Euraxess Researchers referencial.
The jury may request more information or documents to validate the information submitted by the candidate.
Selection and evaluation procedure:
The selection will be based on the curricular evaluation (15 points) and interview (5 points), with a total value of 20 points. If the selected candidate drops out and there is another candidate on the final list with a score resulting from the curricular evaluation and interview equal to or higher than 15, the jury will proceed to select that candidate. In case of a tie in the first two positions, the candidates will be called for a second interview, with an evaluation between 0 and 5 points. The score of this interview is added to the results of the 1st phase in order to select the final candidate.
Evaluation criteria:
1 - Curriculum:
a) Integrated evaluation of the scientific production in areas related to Master program and the MeLCi Lab:
- fulfillment of the requirements specified in "preferential admission requirements”;
- other relevant professional/academic/research experience.
b) evaluation of extension activities and dissemination of knowledge in areas related to Master program and the MeLCi Lab:
- organisation of scientific events;
- participation in activities of communication and dissemination of science;
- presentation of oral communications in scientific events;
- other relevant tasks.
c) motivation letter.
2 - Interview
The evaluation subcriteria to be used will be as follows:
1. Curriculum: a) 50% + b) 40% + c) 10% = 0 to 15 points
2. Interview 100% = 0 to 5 points
