Within the scientific area of communication sciences and social sciences, the doctoral programme focuses on communication themes and issues linked to research into Social Mobilisations, Networks and Activisms, Digital Ecologies, Civic Cultures, New Expressions of Communication and Communication for Development, along with other related themes from both classic and current communication studies.
Among other aspects, the doctoral programme aims to develop and promote:
Notions of Communication and Activism to the values of autonomy, citizenship, civility, socio-cultural development and participation in contemporary democratic processes;
Knowledge and skills in understanding and critically evaluating the consequences of using new technologies;
Knowledge and skills in understanding and critically evaluating new social movements and network activism;
Skills for analysing new technological connections and intervening in digital ecologies;
Understanding new expressions of communication and proposing solutions for quality communication, with projects with societal value;
Developing the ability to convert knowledge into practical application; Encouraging scientific excellence, autonomy, efficiency and the training of researchers as producers and organisers of projects linked to fields of action.
