Manuel Bernardo Cabral

Media Arts Creative Industries and Technology

Teacher, screenwriter, film director and producer, has a licentiateship in History and Social Studies from Universidade dos Açores, a diploma in Film Studies from Ryerson University in Toronto, a masters in Writing for Cinema and Television from Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and a PHD in Media Arts from Universidade Lusófona do Porto. Former member of the Conselho Regional da Cultura – Azores, he’s the coordinator for the audiovisual at Direção Regional da Cultura. He taught Audiovisual Production and History, wrote, directed and produced several documentaries and fiction films, winning a few awards and several official selections in festivals in different countries.

He kept a presence as a film columnist in the Azorean press for several years, and has some academic papers published on cinema. He has been jury member in some film festivals, and is the founder of Curta-Açores Film Festival, now on its 12th year, having been its 1st Director. He’s also co-founder of the CCRG – Clube de Cinema da Ribeira Grande.

He is Vice-President of the FPCC – Federação Portuguesa de Cineclubes (Federation of Portuguese Film Societies).
