Since 2008, Carlota has been responsible for the inclusion of children with low vision and blindness in the annual National Mathematical Games Championship (Campeonato Nacional de Jogos Matemáticos), having created the adapted prototypes of the mathematical games in the competition.
She Implemented the practice of mathematical games adapted to low vision and blindness at the Instituto Paranaense de Cegos in Paraná (Curitiba, Brazil) in 2010.
Carlota completed her PhD in Child Studies - Elementary Mathematics at the University of Minho in 2013, with the thesis “Mathematical Games Adapted to Low Vision and Blindness”. She is also the author of several publications related to the development of mathematical skills in children with low vision and blindness, through the practice of mathematical games.
Her main research interests include the education of blind children and mathematical communication in blindness.
Since 2019, Carlota has been responsible for leading the Low Vision and Blindness in Early Intervention training unit of the Postgraduate Course in Early Intervention at ESE Jean Piaget (Almada).
Carlota is a member of the teaching staff at the Agrupamento de Escolas de Carcavelos (Carcavelos School Grouping) and she is currently in mobility at the Agrupamento de Escolas Leal da Câmara (Leal da Câmara School Grouping).
She has been working as a trainer in Special Education and Didactics of Mathematics at training centers of schools and associations, since 2017.
Between 2014-2016, Carlota worked full-time on the Inclusion and Promotion of Educational Success team of the Direção-Geral da Educação (General Board of Education) of the Ministry of Education and Science.
She has extensive experience in teaching mathematics at the 3rd cycle (basic education) and in secondary education (since 2000). She is a specialist teacher in special education - Visual Domain and has worked in this group for two years.
Between 2007 and 2013, while teaching mathematics at Escola Secundária de Matias Aires (Agualva), she was the ENES / ENEB coordinator at the Exams Secretariat.
