Framework

Digitalization has spread to all spheres of life with very significant impacts in the field of education. With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, distance education through digital channels (DE) has begun to be applied to all levels of education. In this context, DE has become a necessity, not an option. Distance education can be defined as a method of teaching in which teachers and students are physically distant from each other and use digital technology to interact. In this respect, it is not only the development of the educational process using technological tools, but a multidimensional area that includes stages of planning, design, production, presentation, testing, and evaluation of the educational process and its contents. In this context, the use of distance education methods and techniques becomes essential, in order to create meaningful learning that has a real impact on the future development of its participants.

Several studies conducted during the pandemic have shown that in many cases teachers are not prepared to use appropriate methods and techniques for distance education and do not have sufficient knowledge in this area, and this is one of the reasons given for the failure of some pedagogical practices developed online. Besides this important dimension, it is important to remember that not all students are available or prepared, or meet the technical and cognitive conditions to get the best out of this type of education.

Project Development

The project's first target group are the teachers, whose role in distance education is not only to be a vehicle of information and knowledge, but also to be facilitators of the online teaching-learning process, and at the same time its constant evaluation according to the defined educational objectives and changes to its design. In this context, the teacher has the most important role in achieving effective distance education. The project will thus serve to "strengthen the profiles of the teaching profession".

Another target group is the students, a fundamental part of the educational process. For successful DE, students must acquire digital literacy knowledge and skills that contribute to a better use of the tools available for distance education, but also skills in their time management and learning dynamics in distance education. The present project thus aims to contribute to training competent students in DE.

Project Objectives

The objectives of the project are: to motivate students for active participation in distance education; to improve the professional profile of teachers through DE training; to develop specific DE methods and tools that contribute to creating new distance education opportunities for the largest possible number of students; and finally, to increase the quality of DE activities among the partners involved and others who wish to participate.
