On Tuesday, October 24th, the webinar "NGOs fighting disinformation", organised under the scope of the project Empowering Europeans Against Disinformation - EEAD (Project reference - 101081359) took place. Researcher Ana Filipa Oliveira moderated the session that counted with the participation of two speakers: Aseniya Dimitrova (EuroAdvance) and Maia Mazurkiewicz (Alliance4Europe), members of NGOs that have been working to empower European citizens in the face of disinformation and to develop tools for the early detection of disinformation content. This session addressed the pressing issue of disinformation in the digital age by providing insights and strategies from different NGOs for combating and promoting new skills among various groups of citizens. Aseniya Dimitrova has been part of the EuroAdvance Association since 2018 where she worked on various projects. Her talk focused only on EuroAdvances, mission to empower European citizens, but also the Read Twice project, CERV founded a project in which CICANT is engaged and that aims to enhance citizens, competencies to counter disinformation and limit the spread of fake news.
As to Maia Mazurkiewicz, who is an expert on countering disinformation and behavioural changes, and Co-founder and Head of StratCom of Alliance4Europe, She explored Alliance4Europe’s mission and action plan and presented a set of strategies and possible solutions in combating this dangerous global attack on facts. The active contribution of these speakers to this webinar not only shows how relevant the work of NGOs is to promote critical thinking and competencies to detect false information, but also the synergies that CICANT is aiming to establish among the different project it is engaged in.
