Humanities, AI and Creativity are the focus of conference held at Lusofona University

On 5 May 2026, the Lusófona University will host the 2nd Conference “Humanidades, IA e Criatividade”, a full-day event dedicated to exploring the intersections between artificial intelligence, artistic production, and human thought. The conference will take place at the Auditório Agostinho da Silva, in Lisbon, in a fully in-person format.

Bringing together leading scholars and thinkers, the programme addresses key tensions shaping contemporary society, ranging from authorship and creativity to subjectivity and freedom in the age of AI.

The conference opens with a keynote by José Bragança de Miranda, titled “A obra de arte na época da inteligência artificial”, setting the tone for critical reflection on how technological systems are transforming artistic practices. The session will be followed by moderated debate led by João Carrilho.

Later in the morning, Luis Cláudio Ribeiro will present “Cisão, decisão e liberdade – o sujeito em IA”, addressing philosophical implications of artificial intelligence for human agency, with discussion moderated by Lúcio Studer.

The afternoon programme continues with a talk by Manuel José Damásio on “Autoria: a agonia do toque humano”, followed by debate moderated by José Gomes Pinto. The discussion then shifts to architecture and temporality with Mário Krüger presenting “Tempos de pós-modernidade na modernidade em arquitetura”, moderated by Maria Rita Pais.

The conference concludes with a keynote by José Gil, titled “Inteligência artificial, pensamento e criatividade”, offering a broader philosophical synthesis of the themes explored throughout the day.

This initiative reinforces the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue in understanding the cultural, social and epistemological implications of artificial intelligence. By placing the humanities at the centre of the debate, the conference contributes to ongoing reflections on the role of creativity, critical thinking and human agency in increasingly automated societies.
