FEMglocal project awarded “Excellent” in final evaluation

The research project FEMglocal – Feminist Movements: Global and Local Dynamics (Ref. PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021), developed within the CICANT, has received an “Excellent” rating from the FCT and an international panel in its final evaluation, officially closed on 6 April 2026.

Focused on analysing the formation and social relevance of feminist movements in Portugal, the project not only met but significantly exceeded its initial objectives, achieving remarkable results at both academic and societal levels.

The evaluation panel highlighted the project’s strong scientific output, which includes 18 international and 8 national journal articles, as well as several books published in leading outlets in the field of feminist media studies. The project also contributed to the successful completion of a PhD thesis based on one of its case studies, centred on the 8M feminist movement.

In addition to its academic impact, FEMglocal stood out for its commitment to public engagement. The research team organised multiple events and developed creative outputs, including a documentary film, expanding the project’s reach beyond academia and fostering dialogue with wider audiences and stakeholders.

This recognition reinforces CICANT’s commitment to producing high-quality, socially relevant research, and highlights the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to understanding contemporary social movements.
