On August 2nd, the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) announced the provisional results for the 2023 Exploratory Projects Competition across all scientific domains. The CICANT team secured two projects.
The project titled "STORYline: Exploring Youth Citizenship through Intergenerational Approaches and Digital Narratives" will be coordinated by researcher Ana Filipa Oliveira. This exploratory project aims to advance the scholarship on intergenerational and youth citizenship by investigating: 1) how intergenerational relationships influence youths' citizenship experiences and perceptions, and 2) the impact of digital media on citizenship narratives. The central question is: How do intergenerational relations affect youths' experiences and perceptions of citizenship?
Another project, "Checking the Fact-Checkers: Practices and Effectiveness in Southern Europe" will be led by researcher João Pedro Baptista. This project seeks to deepen the understanding of fact-checking practices by examining journalistic processes, audience perceptions, and the effectiveness of correcting false information. Adopting a holistic approach, the project aims to identify and analyze fact-checking strategies, understand the challenges faced by this journalistic movement, and evaluate its ability to monitor the spread of online disinformation.
This call for proposals will support at least 400 exploratory research projects (PEX), with a duration of 18 months and maximum funding of 50,000 euros per project.
