Since 2017, a research partnership has been developed between the Early Visual Lab (CICANT) of Lusófona University and the Casa Estúdio Carlos Relvas, owned by the Golegã City Council, with the aim of putting together an online database that brings together the main Portuguese public and private collections of stereoscopic proofs by Carlos Relvas. These images have been combined with the fund of negatives from the Carlos Relvas House-Studio and are accessible to everyone online at https://carlosrelvascatalogue.pt/ .
Continuing this project, the aim of this campaign is to cover other photographic types besides stereoscopy. For this new stage, we are counting on the contribution of people who have photographs or albums by Carlos Relvas, so that we can expand digitisation and public knowledge of the work of one of Portugal's greatest photographers.
The new campaign thus aims to include in the catalogue images taken by Carlos Relvas in the 19th century that are neither known nor studied, so that progress in research into one of the world's greatest photographic prodigies can continue to be studied and shared with the public.
The first phase of this campaign will run from 15 August to 15 December 2024.
