CICANT Researcher Daniel Cardoso Contributes to GENTEEL Project on Graphic Novels and Gender Violence

Researcher Daniel Cardoso participates in the GENTEEL Project – Graphic Novels Against Gender Violence, an innovative initiative recently selected in the 2023 Exploratory Projects in All Scientific Domains competition, promoted by the FCT.

Awarded second place in the Arts panel, the project unites a team of researchers with expertise in comic book studies, visual culture, and gender studies, alongside robust experience in qualitative social science methodologies applied to education. The team, led by Nicoletta Mandolini, includes Cristina Álvares (CEHUM – UMinho), Ece Canli (CECS – UMinho), Alice Balbé (CECS – UMinho), and Daniel Cardoso (Universidade Lusófona Lisboa, CICANT).

The project will explore the potential of graphic novels as tools to raise awareness of gender-based discrimination and violence in secondary schools in northern Portugal. By examining how graphic narratives can foster awareness, empathy, and collective discussions on gender violence, the research aims to develop innovative approaches to education on this critical issue.

Daniel Cardoso’s involvement underscores CICANT’s dedication to impactful and interdisciplinary research that addresses pressing societal challenges.
