CICANT Researcher Co-Authors Systematic Review on Assistive Technology in Digital Health Journal
CICANT researcher Carla Sousa has co-authored the paper “The Use of Assistive Technology to Promote Practical Skills in Persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disabilities: A Systematic Review”, published in the prestigious journal Digital Health (SAGE).
The systematic review analyzes 18 studies exploring the impact of assistive technologies (ATs)—such as virtual reality, mobile applications, and interactive software—on enhancing practical skills for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual disabilities (ID). The findings emphasize the significant role ATs play in fostering independence, improving communication, and increasing social participation in diverse settings.
This research provides valuable insights into how ATs can promote inclusion and empowerment for individuals with ASD and ID, highlighting their potential to address key challenges in daily living and social integration.
