Visual Arts Students from Lusófona University Lead Street Art Initiative for ClimAID Project

In a creative collaboration under the European ClimAID project, volunteer visual arts students from Lusófona University have transformed a prominent wall on the campus, visible to hundreds of students, faculty, and staff on a daily basis. The mural, which was created in partnership with the project’s co-lead researcher, Inês Marques, serves as a powerful statement of environmental and social change, aligning with the core values of ClimAID.

The word chosen by the Portuguese team to symbolise the project's ethos is "FUTURO" (Future), which encapsulates the driving force behind the initiative. It represents not just a hopeful vision for the future, but also a call to action for social change. The mural aims to remind the university community of the importance of taking responsibility for the planet and future generations—an ethos that Lusófona University embraces in its role as an educational institution shaping thousands of national and international students.

The artistic project was preceded by an inspiring creative talk led by the Boa Mistura Association, a collective known for their community-focused urban art projects. Their session provided students with insight into the power of street art in communicating social messages and fostering a sense of community.

The mural will serve as a lasting symbol of the ClimAID project’s mission to integrate climate action into everyday life, highlighting the significant role educational institutions can play in fostering awareness and inspiring change.

This initiative is part of a broader commitment by Lusófona University to engage students in innovative, cross-disciplinary approaches to addressing global challenges.
