The Artistic Research Exhibition 2025 (ARE25), organized by the FilmEU European University, opens a call under the theme “Synthetic Rewilding: Between Nature and the Machine”, challenging researchers to explore how ecosystems and algorithms intertwine and questioning the ethical, aesthetic, and transformative possibilities of co-creation between the organic and the artificial. The exhibition will take place from 2-6 June 2025 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The ARE25 exhibition invites postgraduate researchers from around the world to submit audiovisual or media-based works resulting from artistic research practices. Selected works will highlight innovative approaches that blend disciplines such as technology, science, humanities, and the arts, offering critical reflections on the interplay between humanity and its environment.
Submissions must be no more than two years old and can include either finished or preliminary works. Applications should be accompanied by a 350-word abstract, a downloadable video format (mp4), and technical requirements for display. The deadline for submissions is 16 March 2025, with notifications of acceptance sent by 28 March 2025. A total of 12 works will be exhibited, including contributions from FilmEU institutions and external researchers.
ARE25 offers an opportunity to showcase groundbreaking artistic research during the FilmEU Summit, providing a platform to challenge conventions and foster dialogue about the evolving relationship between art, technology, and society.
