On January 25, 2025, CICANT will hold the third session of the II Cycle “Between Portugal and Mozambique” at Gato Vadio Library. The session, titled Mozambique at 50 Years of Independence: The Present and the Future, will address the country's political, social, and economic challenges as it reaches this milestone.
Entering 2025, Mozambique faces a tumultuous period marked by the aftermath of the October 2024 elections. These elections sparked widespread social unrest, with protests erupting in Maputo and other cities, resulting in a near paralysis of the country. The session will explore the implications of this uncertain present and discuss prospects for the future.
The event will feature Sheila Khan, a CICANT researcher, as facilitator, and will be moderated by Lurdes Macedo, also a researcher at CICANT.
This initiative provides a platform to examine Mozambique’s journey over the past five decades and its potential pathways forward in a complex and evolving landscape.
The session is open to the public, with free entry.
