CICANT opens call for visiting researchers 2026

CICANT is now accepting applications from international researchers affiliated with foreign higher education institutions or research centres for short-term scientific stays in Portugal during 2026.
The initiative aims to strengthen international collaboration, foster interdisciplinary knowledge exchange, and expand research networks in the fields of communication, media, arts, culture, and digital technologies. Research stays may take place in Lisbon or Porto and should last between seven and fifteen days.
CICANT develops interdisciplinary research focused on the societal, cultural, and technological transformations shaping contemporary life. The centre’s work explores themes such as media, democracy, literacies, digital cultures, creative industries, identities, cultural participation, civic engagement, populism, extremism, and sustainable futures, combining theoretical and practice-based approaches.
Research activities are organised around two main thematic strands:
- Media, Society, and Literacies
- Media Arts, Creative Industries and Technologies
These strands are operationalised through three Research and Learning Communities (ReLeCos):
- FLAME – Futures of Literacies, Audiences, Media and Democracy
- MACIT – Media Arts, Culture and Creative Industries and Media Technologies
- SUST_MEDIA – Media and Transformations for a Sustainable Future
Selected Visiting Researchers will be integrated into CICANT’s research environment and will have access to shared workspaces and university infrastructures. During the stay, researchers are expected to actively contribute to the centre’s activities, namely through seminars, workshops, and the exploration of future collaboration opportunities, including joint publications and research projects.
