CICANT Joins European Project to Enhance Children’s Hospital Environments

CICANT is a key partner in the European project Healing Nature - Animation for Health and Well-being in Children Hospital Environments, led by the Croatian Association of Fine Artists in collaboration with New Bulgarian University (Bulgaria). Launched in the end of 2024, the project aims to improve hospital environments for children using augmented reality (AR) and animated content.

Recognizing the therapeutic potential of nature-inspired visuals, Healing Nature will introduce interactive AR-integrated murals in hospitals. These installations will create a soothing and immersive atmosphere, reducing stress and anxiety for young patients. The project builds on previous pilot initiatives by Dr. Melinda Šefčić and Dr. Lea Vidaković (CICANT integrated researcher) at KBC Zagreb.

The initiative emphasizes a SCREENless format, combining traditional handcrafted techniques with digital animation to foster an engaging and participatory hospital environment. Workshops on nature, art, animation, and technology will allow children to contribute creatively to the final artworks.

A research component will assess the project’s effects on patients, visitors, and hospital staff, with findings compiled into a digital booklet. By integrating artistic innovation with immersive technology, Healing Nature aims to transform hospital spaces into nurturing and engaging environments that enhance well-being.
