CICANT – the Research Centre for Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies – in partnership with the Cultural Center of Belém (CCB) and the School of Communication, Architecture, Arts and Information Technologies (ECATI), announced the upcoming conference Oh Man! Aggrieved Masculinity, Silicon Valley, and the New Far Right, delivered by renowned cultural theorist Ana Teixeira Pinto.
Drawing on Barbara Spackman’s Fascist Virilities, the talk explores how narratives of aggrieved masculinity fuel the ideological engines of the far right, enabling their transition from online platforms to real-world political influence. As political discourse increasingly adopts the language of masculinity, Teixeira Pinto will examine how these ideologies inscribe gendered visions of control, resistance, and redress onto the body.
Ana Teixeira Pinto is a Berlin-based writer and cultural theorist. She teaches at HBK Braunschweig and serves as a theory tutor at the Dutch Art Institute. She is the editor of the book series On the Antipolitical and co-editor of Fascism, Unreason and the Paradox of Modernity, both published by Sternberg Press.
This event is part of Other Spaces: Creative Margins, a public lecture series hosted monthly at the CCB’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC/CCB) from March to December. The initiative is a collaboration between CCB, ECATI, and CICANT, aiming to bridge academic research and the wider community through interdisciplinary dialogues spanning visual arts, cinema, performing arts, sound, communication, culture, architecture, and digital technologies.
