Maria José Brites, integrated researcher and board member at CICANT, has been invited to act as scientific advisor to the National Media Literacy Plan 2025-2029 (PNLM 2025-2029), under Council of Ministers Resolution no. 65/2025, of 18 March.
Maria José Brites, who has been developing her research on media education, civic cultures and digital citizenship, will now be part of the team responsible for implementing this national strategic initiative, under the remit of the Media Mission Structure - #PortugalMediaLab. The National Media Literacy Plan 2025-2029 represents a fundamental instrument for developing the media skills of the Portuguese population, with the aim of promoting critical thinking and the ability to analyze information in an era of increasing digitalization.
The nomination of the CICANT researcher reflects the recognition of her expertise in the area, consolidated through years of research dedicated to topics of media literacy and digital citizenship, contributing to the scientific reinforcement of this important government initiative. This appointment will allow Maria José Brites' experience to contribute to the success of the National Media Literacy Plan and to strengthen pressing strategies to promote media literacy in Portugal.
