CICANT Researchers participate in IAMCR 2025 conference

Four researchers from CICANT are participating in the 2025 International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) conference, currently taking place in Singapore from July 13-17.

The conference, themed "Communicating Environmental Justice: Many Voices, One Planet," features presentations from Maria José Brites, Teresa Sofia Castro, Jacinto Godinho, and doctoral student Margarida Maneta.

Maria José Brites, Teresa Sofia Castro and Margarida Maneta are presenting two studies on youth and digital media. Their research examines how absent young voices contribute to biased media perspectives and explores media education challenges in the algorithmic age, particularly regarding youth news consumption and digital citizenship.

Jacinto Godinho, in collaboration with Carla Baptista from ICNOVA FCSH, is presenting historical media research focused on post-revolutionary Portugal. Their two presentations focus on the role of photojournalism in regime change and examines censorship cases at RTP television between 1974-1976 during the Carnation Revolution period.

Maria José Brites is also serving as a discussant in a Media and Education Research session on digital practices and young people, together with researcher Devina Sarwatay from the United Kingdom.

More information about the conference is available here.
