MUTIM Commissions FEMglocal Researchers to Lead Key Manual for Safer Film and Audiovisual Workplaces

On June 11, at Bar High Life – Batalha Centro de Cinema in Porto, the “Manual de Boas Práticas para o Cinema e Audiovisual em Portugal” was officially launched, marking a major step toward creating safer, more inclusive, and equitable working environments in the Portuguese film and audiovisual sector.
The manual is the result of a collaborative effort between professionals, legal experts, and researchers, including Ana Sofia Pereira and Camila Lamartine – respectively postdoctoral fellow and researcher of the FEMglocal project – who authored the publication. The legal review was conducted by jurist Leonor Caldeira. The project was coordinated by the board of MUTIM – Mulheres Trabalhadoras das Imagens em Movimento, with essential contributions from its members through a dedicated working group.
Combining practical, ethical, and legal guidelines, the manual aims to prevent and address harassment, discrimination, and inequality in the workplace. It has already garnered significant attention, with wide media coverage from outlets such as Público, RTP, Antena 1, Sábado, and Observador, underscoring the urgent relevance of the initiative. Following the successful Porto launch, a second presentation took place in Lisbon on June 27 at the Goethe-Institut, further reinforcing its national reach.
Supported by the FEMglocal research project, the Portuguese Film and Audiovisual Institute (ICA), Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, and co-produced by Filmaporto – Film Commission, the manual also features graphic design by @sarasworkplace.pt.
With the first printed edition nearly sold out, the enthusiastic public reception affirms the pressing need for tools that promote justice and safety in the industry. FEMglocal is proud to have contributed to the development of this essential resource and to stand alongside those advocating for transformative change in the cultural and creative sectors.
