FEMglocal at the 12th European Feminist Research Conference – ATGENDER

The FEMglocal project was actively represented at the 12th European Feminist Research Conference – ATGENDER, held under the theme “Social Justice, Feminist Solidarities and Intersectional Activism”.
FEMglocal researchers organized the panel “Glocal Feminist Movements: The Portuguese Case”, dedicated to exploring the evolution, representation, and dissemination of feminist activism in Portugal. The panel featured three communications developed within the scope of the project.
Célia Taborda (co-PI) presented the paper “Feminist Movement or Feminist Activism? Understanding the Evolution of Feminisms in Portugal”, offering a critical analysis of the historical development of Portuguese feminisms in light of local constraints and global feminist frameworks.
Carla Cerqueira (PI) contributed with the presentation “Media Representations of Glocal Feminist Movements: Analyzing SlutWalk, 8M, #MeToo and #EleNão in Portugal”, based on a thematic analysis of mainstream news coverage. The study reflects on how these movements are shaped and made (in)visible through media discourse.
Ana Sofia Pereira (postdoctoral fellow) presented “Feminist Histories in Action: Exploring the Impact of FEMglocal’s Outputs on Knowledge Dissemination”, focusing on how the project’s key outputs - such as the booklet, podcast, interactive map, and documentary - contribute to bridging academic research and public engagement.
In addition to this panel, Camila Lamartine, FEMglocal researcher, also participated in the conference with the presentation “Intersectional Glitches: Cyberfeminism, Whiteness and the Lusophone 8M Movement”, in a separate session. Her work examined cyberfeminist communication practices in Portugal and Brazil through a netnographic analysis of Instagram accounts and interviews with feminist activists.
FEMglocal’s participation in ATGENDER 2025 reaffirmed the project’s contribution to international feminist research, while fostering dialogue on the transnational dimensions of activism, memory, media, and knowledge production.
