Conference: Women’s Communication Rights in the Digital Era – 30 Years of the Beijing Platform for Action

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, CICANT, together with ICNOVA (NOVA University Lisbon) and the Gender, Sexuality and Communication Section of ECREA, co-organizes the conference “Women’s Communication Rights in the Digital Era: the Beijing Platform for Action 30 Years On”, happening on September 18-19.

The event will explore persistent and emerging challenges in gender equality and intersectionality in the media sector. Despite decades of feminist activism, gender inequalities remain, including underrepresentation of women in leadership, stereotyped portrayals, and rising online misogyny, affecting minority groups disproportionately.

The conference features:

  • 3 keynote speakers (Mexico, Canada, Italy)
  • 8 national and Italian speakers
  • Around 55 participants from 21 countries, across 12 parallel sessions.

In addition to discussions on digital communication and gender issues, the program includes a workshop and the screening of a documentary, offering practical and cultural insights.

The conference aims to be a collaborative platform for debate, strategy development, and the promotion of a fairer, more inclusive media environment.
